3 things you should never do to your roof

The roof has an important job, it is in place to keep you, your family, and all your belongings protected from the elements. Since the roof works so hard for you, you want to ensure that it will last for a long time, there are certain things you should never do with the roof. If you do, you risk damaging it.

Add a Satellite Dish

Speaking of using nails and screws to attach things to the roof, such as adding a satellite dish is a risky endeavour. This means having holes on materials that aren’t supposed to have holes. Even if the installers put a barrier between the dish and the roof, it could still lead to a leakage.

Place a Basketball Hoop on the Roof

If you enjoy sports and want to have a basketball hoop at your house, it’s advised that you get one with a pole. Screwing this to your roof can cause major damage. Not only can the holes lead to leaks, the vibration of the ball as it hits the hoop or the chance of someone getting hit on the rim after a slam dunk can cause structural damage on the roof.

Place a New Roof over an Old Roof

To save money, many houseowners will get a new roof placed over an old roof. While this will save labour costs, it won’t protect the house. If the old roof is installed under the new roof, this could make the new roof less useful. Again, water and other elements can get into your house and cause a lot of damage. This will end up costing you more in the future.

When it comes to roofs, make sure you are doing what you can to ensure that it lasts for the longest period.
